Patch Up - Stephanie Witter

Patch_Up_CoverSkye followed her long time boyfriend to Seattle for their first year of college, but he dumped her after only a week. The relationship brought only pain and destruction in Skye's life, and yet, she can't bring herself to open up and live her life.

"What if I am already broken into pieces?"

She hates to be touched, hiding under her oversized shirts and behind her wild frizzy hair. Even her bubbly roommate can't reach her. And yet ...

"I'm the guy who knows how you can hurt so much that your insides feel like they're cut and bleeding."

The tall, handsome, and tattooed TA in her psychology class changes everything when he literally collides with her and confronts her. For the first time in a long time, she wants to try and open up to this guy whose dark, intense eyes can't hide his own pain despite his dazzling smile getting to her.

However, just when she's starting to live again, her ex-boyfriend comes back, breaking her time and time again, making it all the more complicated.

She wants to fight for herself and for this building thing with the TA, even when he pushes her away, but can two broken people patch each other up?

"I never thought colliding with someone could change lives, but it is possible."

My Review :

This is heartbreaking, painful story about two broken souls. The story takes places in college where Skye met Duke, ones of the TA in her in psychology's class.

But Skye can't stand to be touch by anyone and tried to be invisible to the world, her boyfriend broke up with her months ago.She hide a big secret and Duke is the one who could see through her. As usual, she rough to people and cold but he's persistent. Every time he saw her, it's like he took down a wall in her soul.As Skye, Duke is deeply attainted by his past, he can let it go, his first love who died in a car accident. When the two collide, we saw since the first time that two of them are gonna be connected. And it works! I was totally absorbed by their story.

Throughout the story, we saw the ups ans downs of Skye and Duke relationship. How could someone open up to people and trusted them after being abused verbally and physically? To be ashamed and to be denigrated constantly that you don't want to people to know?

Skye is a young woman who tried to survive after what happened with her boyfriend, who abused her for the last three years. What can i say, this guy freaked me out. She was like his possession at his every disposal, who took the verbal abuse and strokes. We can see how a kind of this relationship destroyed her little by little, like he took a piece of her every time she were abused. Skye is so deeply emotionally wrecked that she couldn't let anybody get into her life until Duke, with his persistence. But she is a fighter, a strong woman.

At first sight, Duke seemed to be a strong man, handsome tattored man, trying to reach every walls that Skye put around her, but he's also tormented. When he saw her, he knew deep inside that she wouldn't be one of his friends but so much more. He imposed himself to Skye even she didn't want to be close to him. I love how he cared about her, always be careful, not pushing her. As a brilliant TA in psychology, he can read Skye like anybody else, like a open book. But sometimes he couldn't be strong for both of them. He took baby steps with her and understand that she couldn't be intimate, touched by someone, so he tried to gain her trust, letting him more and more into her life. He wants Skye to be strong because he couldn't be.

Being friends first is not easy for them and didn't understand all the overwhelming feelings they had for each other. But when she lets him in, is like they belong together. Every time we saw something good happened, Sean (Skye ex boyfriend) is here to remain her that couldn't be free and would be still have a leverage on her. These parts were very hard to read, and i was hurting for Skye but also for Duke because he is like a passive observer.Progressively, Skye lets people come into her life ; her roommate and Derek who becomes a brother to her. Duke showed her how to reconnect to people.

I love everything in this book and Stephanie knows how to write gut wrenching story who leave me speechless! I was so overwhelmed by this story about surviving after an abusive relationship and to find love all along the way, someone you can rely on.For a new adult romance, this one is very mature and i enjoyed every moment, even the hard, harsh ones. It is well written and Stephanie Witter deals with abusive relationships with a very smart approach. It's not easy to put this on this kind of genre. It is a perfect mix of romance, tragedy, hotness (Duke is so...wow, the tattoos got me and their sexual attraction, wow, wow), joy and friendship! I give it a try and wasn't disappointed, i recommend this book!
